Looking back to bounce back

Looking back to bounce back

How do you feel about money? Not what you think… but what emotions does money create within you? Is money a precursor to abundance, success?

You desire to make money in order to feel free to live a life that reflects your choices. You unconsciously believe that when you have money, then you will… (fill in the blanks). Or when you work hard to achieve your goals…then you will have the title you want, the recognition you want, maybe get the car you want. You believe that you will feel a certain way only when… (fill in the blanks!).

I’ve had an interesting relationship with money, the concept of success, and abundance.

A turbulent, trying, and interesting relationship that has been an underlying powerful transformation.

During my marriage (which would end in divorce) and while raising my two daughters, I spent more than a decade contributing to build a $50M business with an extreme focus on “when my business gets to that level, I will feel so overjoyed, proud and successful”.

The moment came and went without me feeling joy, content or even a sense of fulfillment. As a matter of fact, I decided to sell the business because I realized that my drive to achieve my so called “success” led to nothing more than inner disconnect, restlessness and loneliness. I was then driven to understand WHY?

I knew how to achieve. I knew how to be disciplined. I knew how to work hard. I knew how to go from point A to point B. I had passion, drive and grit to create something big. I was dedicated. My devotion ran deep in every part of my life. I was committed to growth because that’s the norm in business, isn’t it?

Achieving was my conditioning. I believed that anything worth receiving takes a lot of work. I believed money defines success and failure. Money, for me then, defined freedom and my ability to feel fulfillment. Until it didn’t.

My foundation for feeling successful, joyful and free was cracked. I was so bewildered by this breakthrough, that I felt I had no other option but to dive in my internal work to understand how I got “there”. I committed to taking the steps to redefine and recenter my life around what actually generates those feelings within me.

6 years later, which feels like a lifetime honestly, here is what I know for sure:

  • Freedom is an inner space that no one or nothing can take away
  • Money is an energy of inner abundance that attracts opportunities effortlessly
  • Lack and scarcity are inner feelings emanating from fear, comparison and competition
  • Your unconscious beliefs create thoughts, thoughts create emotions. So what are your unconscious beliefs?
  • Achievement alone will ALWAYS be met with dissatisfaction
  • Thriving is an equation of IQ & EQ; of strategic drive and emotionally intelligent process. You canNOT function sustainably with 1 element.
  • I learned to tune into my frequencies of freedom, joy and successful abundance without waiting for – being dependant on – the external proof.
  • What you don’t own, owns you.

There is no truth in the stereotype of “independence”. We are all interdependent on one another, on our inner beliefs, on our past & present conditioning, on our process for experiencing life.

Want to be happy, free and truly abundant?

Then detach from the belief that external symbols such as hard work, money, your intimate partners are all responsible to “give” you that or “make you feel” powerful.

YOU are responsible for generating those emotions within. Only then will your achievements, accolades, professional peaks, lovers, children, shopping or jewelry truly add to your already anchored inner knowing that you are enough. Your over “achieving & doing” is a mask for your inner lack.

Find the courage to face your fears, to feel your shame, to open up vulnerably, to be accountable for your life and how you show up for yourself and for others. Take stock of the feelings you no longer want in your life.

Have a hard conversation with yourself.

“Choosing our own comfort over hard conversations is the epitome of privilege, and it corrodes trust and moves us away from meaningful and lasting change.” Brene Brown.
